BATTLE OF THE PADDLE MOVES TO SALT CREEK

2014 Battle of the Paddle

After months of rumours, whispers and behind the scenes negotiating, it’s now official: The 2014 Battle of the Paddle will not be at its traditional home of Doheny State Beach, but instead will move five minutes north to Salt Creek.

The Battle of the Paddle California, which for the past six years has been the biggest race of the season and the only race that’s been able to attract virtually all of the world’s best, will also be on a new weekend this year: October 4th & 5th, one week later than its usual last-weekend-in-September time slot.

The move in date and location are due to a number of reasons, but it basically all boils down to this: State Parks and Rainbow Sandals haven’t exactly gotten along the past six months, after State Parks dumped a bunch of unreasonable demands on the doorstep of the BOP organisers and told them to either take it or take a hike. That led to a lot of back-and-forth behind the scenes, but in the end the BOP crew decided they could organize a better event for paddlers, fans and exhibitors if they had the freedom of a new location.

We’re Doing A Massive Update To The Rogue SUP Race Calendar: Make Sure Your Race Is On There

Our world famous Rogue SUP Race Calendar has become the go-to place for finding stand up paddle races, no matter whether you’re an elite professional trying to organise your travel schedule or a weekend warrior looking to have a bit of fun. But it’s a constant work in progress, with new races popping up every day in every corner the globe. And we need your help to make sure they’re all on the Calendar.

Right now we’ve got 200 races on the Calendar, however I reckon there’s a good 200 or 300 other races out there. In fact I’d be surprised if we didn’t end up with north of 500 races on the Calendar in 2014. We’re always hunting around for new races to add but we can never find them all, so let’s crowdsource the best resource for paddlers ever.

So if you’re entering or organising a race that’s not already listed, get onto the form below and we’ll get it onto the Rogue SUP Race Calendar asap.
